Newly installed and properly insulated fire sprinkler head inside a walk-in cooler

Walk-in Cooler — Corroded Sprinkler Head Replacement

Old corroded sprinkler head inside a walk-in cooler swapped for a new head with proper insulation so condensation doesn't repeat the failure.

Dallas–Fort Worth, TX 2026

The environment is the enemy

Walk-in coolers cycle between cold and ambient temperatures, condense moisture all day long, and live in a food-service space where the air is anything but neutral. Standard sprinkler heads in that environment corrode visibly in a year or two.

The replacement

We pulled the corroded head, installed a new listed head, and wrapped the head + drop in proper insulation so condensation doesn’t sit on the metal. The replacement was noted in the inspection report with a recommendation to inspect this head annually given the harsh service conditions.

What restaurant owners should know

If your cooler sprinklers have ever shown rust spots or scale, they’re due for a closer look. The fix is straightforward when caught on a routine inspection; the alternative is a head that can’t be relied on when the line is hot.
