Care Facilities

Fire protection built for care facilities

Care facilities are the only vertical we serve where the fire marshal is not the only regulator on the building. Anything housing residents who cannot self-evacuate is also under Texas Health and Human Services (HHS). HHS surveyors come in with their own checklist that overlaps but does not match the fire-marshal one. Paragon builds and inspects fire-protection systems that satisfy both.

Three Resident Tiers, One Code Stack

Each of these tiers has a different fire-protection envelope under Texas HHS, layered on top of NFPA and the local AHJ:

  • Assisted Living. Texas HHS Type A and Type B facilities. Different evacuation assumptions, different sprinkler and alarm requirements depending on resident mobility classification.
  • Skilled Nursing. The strictest tier. Life Safety Code occupancy, full smoke compartmentation, supervised sprinkler systems, dedicated egress paths.
  • Independent Living (55+). Closer to the multifamily residential envelope but still subject to age-restricted housing rules under HHS.

We can tell you, in a one-hour walk-through, exactly which envelope your building is under and what that means for your annual inspection cadence.

Inspections

Every system at the same time, one report. Sprinklers, alarms, backflows, extinguishers, fire pumps where present. Documentation formatted so it works for both the fire marshal and the HHS surveyor. Same property, two regulators, one paperwork burden.

Retrofits

Most care facilities we touch were originally built to an older code edition. Adding memory-care wings, sub-dividing existing units, or upgrading to current evacuation assumptions requires retrofit sprinkler work, sometimes paired with smoke-compartmentation alarm changes. We do this work as a single coordinated project so the building is not half-finished during a survey window.

New Construction

Building a new assisted-living or skilled-nursing facility in DFW? Bring us in at design. Sprinkler design and install for care facilities has more constraints than any other vertical we work in. System layout has to satisfy NFPA 13, the Life Safety Code occupancy, HHS rule chapter, and the local AHJ all at once. Mistakes at the design phase become expensive change orders during construction.

24/7 Response

Senior-care buildings cannot stay in firewatch for long without staffing it from your own roster. When something breaks, our 24/7 emergency response gets a technician on site fast. That is the difference between an after-hours visit and three shifts of nurses pulling firewatch duty.
